Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about sessions, scheduling and my therapeutic approach.
For the first session you can either book a free consultation, or go right into an initial session. You can call, text or email to set up a first meeting. My consultations are brief (20-30 minutes), to the point, and intended to give you and I a chance to interact one-on-one before you choose to go further. Initial sessions are longer, and look more like a typical counselling session (see below)In the consultation, I will open by asking what brings you into counselling. I will get a brief overview of your presenting issue, and you and I will formulate our plan from there.
A typical counselling session looks different depending on your specific needs and desires, but here are some common factors:Grounding: I often like to open sessions with some form of grounding. This is because grounding provides regulation, and a regulated mind is best equipped for problem-solving. This is not mandatory, but some clients find it helpfulGetting your history: Learning what you are dealing with today, and what you have dealt with in the past, to achieve a deeper understanding of your patterns and core beliefs.Setting measurable goals and accountabilities: ending sessions with a movement-oriented approach, breaking down your struggles into manageable tasks.Education: I will provide in-session coping skills and strategies to help you move through your stuck points.
Difficult emotions (e.g. anger, anxiety): Our work together will pinpoint these emotions, find their triggers, and create strategies to combat them. Insecurities: through Shadow Work, we will find the root causes for certain beliefs or fears that might be holding you back from taking that job opportunity, or putting yourself out there in relationships.Core Beliefs: Core beliefs are the beliefs that were internalized at a young age through early childhood experiences. Left unexamined, core beliefs can have a massive effect on your life.Stuckness: We will locate the areas where you feel “stuck” or like you have no control.
